ABP Southamptom Welcomes Largest Container Ship Ever to Call at the Port

Maersk Line, one of the world’s leading liner-shipping companies, operates the ship. The company returned to SCT in February 2006, to operate the AE2, AE9 and AE10 Asia-Europe services, after an absence of almost eight years. Captain Steven Young, Harbour Master, ABP Southampton, said: “The Port of Southampton was at the forefront of containerisation when it developed container-handling facilities in the late 1960s. We are pleased to remain at the forefront today, with some of the world’s largest vessels utilising the port. Southampton is perfectly equipped to handle vessels of this size, and to accommodate future growth in containerised trade.” SCT handles over 50 per cent of the UK’s trade with the Far East.Source: Press Release
