Approvals from the relevant competition authorities in the European Union and the United States constitute one of the conditions to which Maersk's obligation to declare the offer unconditional was made subject. In order to obtain clearance from the European Commission Maersk and Royal P&O Nedlloyd have committed to divest the business of Royal P&O Nedlloyd on the trade between Europe and South Africa in case the offer is completed. Maersk will maintain its existing liner services between South Africa and Europe.
