Russian Railways plans for investments into infrastructure

Of the total, some RUR200bn (approx. USD6.96bn) will be invested into the northwest direction. The company means to approve the master plan of northwest railway infrastructure development until 2010 in August 2005. Specifically, the plan stipulates for projects aimed at establishing high-speed communication between Moscow and St. Petersburg, and St. Petersburg and Helsinki. Such projects are to be implemented in several stages: railroad communication at a speed of up to 250 kilometers per hour would be made available through modernization of the existing infrastructure, but as for faster trains, the plan is yet to be finalized.
